Mould Aftercare

Mould Can Always Return
We recommend the following preventative actions and/or good housekeeping principles be maintained after any mould remediation works have been completed. This will help prevent mould from returning.
*** Please note that mould could negatively impact your health, so it is important to follow the following recommendations. If you have any medical concerns or issues, please consult your doctor ***
The best way to stop and prevent mould and damp is to ensure that your home always remains well-aired and dried:
-
Open windows, curtains, and doors to allow as much sunlight into the property as much as possible, especially in the bathroom, laundry, and kitchen areas. These are typically higher moisture areas.
-
Open doors and windows to allow air to flow and dry all surfaces that are most prone to moisture collection, especially in the bathrooms and laundry.
-
Open windows when you’re preparing food, or using a steamy shower, bath, or clothes dryer. It is important that air from your clothes dryer is vented outside, not inside.
-
Where a room is fitted with an exhaust fan or similar and on a separate control switch, please allow these fans to run for 5 minutes longer to ventilate any steam or moisture build-up. Especially in the cooler months when windows are likely to be kept shut.
-
Regularly clean wet areas of your home, such as your bathroom, kitchen, and laundry. Wipe away moisture from windows, window frames, walls, and near taps. Keep bathroom walls, showers, shower curtains, baths, and basins as dry as possible.
-
Don’t store or put away damp clothes, shoes outside, or wet umbrellas. Dry them out as soon as possible. Make sure that they dry before putting them in a wardrobe or clothes-storing area. Leave wardrobe doors open where possible.
-
Vacuum / clean carpets and rugs regularly using a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter vacuum cleaner.
-
Clean up water leaks and spills indoors immediately.
-
Clean evaporation trays in air conditioning units, dehumidifiers, and refrigerators regularly or as per the manufacturer’s recommendations.
-
Regularly inspect the air-conditioning units for mould growth. If you see any spores developing, please arrange for an air-conditioning service/clean ASAP. Mouldy air-conditioning units spread mould EVERY time you switch them ON.
-
Allow space between furniture and/or clothing and walls so air can flow.
-
Don’t stack boxes or other items against outside walls, especially walls that don’t get a lot of sun.
-
Place absorbent beads in affected rooms to soak up extra moisture. You can buy these at any supermarket or hardware store.
