Not every bit of bathroom mould needs a professional. The trick is knowing which is a surface nuisance and which is a sign of a bigger problem.
Usually a clean
Black speckling on silicone, grout lines and the shower ceiling, in a room that doesn’t ventilate well, is typically surface mould from steam and condensation. Better airflow, an exhaust fan that actually vents outside, and regular cleaning will usually keep it in check.
Usually more than a clean
If mould is coming through the paint, spreading across the wall or ceiling beyond the wet areas, or returning within days of cleaning, there’s likely moisture behind the surface — a leak, a failed waterproofing membrane, or a ventilation problem. That needs investigation, not another wipe-down.
If you’re not sure, a professional assessment tells you which one you’re dealing with before you spend money on the wrong fix.
